The Vision of the Trust is to establish and run a world class institution in Benin that can house and showcase the Benin bronzes and important cultural items from across West Africa and be a centre of training and learning – creating a new generation of Africans that will lead the curation of cultural artefacts.
Governance
– Victor Ehikhamenor – Victor is a Nigerian artist, writer, and photographer, whose work is strongly influenced by his Benin heritage.
– Phillip Ihenacho – Phillip is a co-founder of Amaya Capital, an African-focused principal investing firm, with extensive experience in attracting investment into Africa.
– Enotie Ogbebor – An established international artist based in Benin with an in-depth knowledge of Benin culture, history, and tradition.
Steering Committee Comprised of Key Stakeholders
The Steering committee will provide strategic direction and support to LRT, and assist with relevant authorisations. The Steering Committee is being finalised but will be comprised of representatives from the following institutions:
– Babatunde Adebiyi, representing the National Commission for Museums and Monuments
– Prof Yinka Omorogbe, Attorney General, representing Edo State Government
– TBD – Representing the Royal Court of Benin
Advisory Committee with Relevant Experience
– Sir David Adjaye – Representing Adjaye and Associates and focused on
– Dr Sam Nixon – Representing respectively the British Museum and focused on archaeological heritage management and research, site preparation and curatorial guidance
– Dr. Barbara Plankensteiner – Representing the Hamburg Museum responsible for cataloguing and digitalisation strategy, curatorial guidance as well as co-ordination with other museums in Germany who are members of BDG.
